MON23MAY

A right of reply.

Warbling poplet and Family First poster boy Guy Sebastian has thrilled pro-lifers everywhere by announcing he plans to set up an anti-abortion 'counselling' clinic. Which, you know, would in no way intimidate confused and frightened young women into possibly keeping unwanted pregnancies through complicated and mildly threatening Bible bashing! NO! WAY!

When I heard this news, my reactions were as follows:

- Oh, you pious r 'n' b cunt.
- Hey, will the 'Fro(TM) be wheeled in post-op to send a message of love down the well?
- Wait a fucking second! I voted for him in Australian Idol 2003! I want my fucking vote back!

Thank god the internerd caters for cynical, hard-bitten folk like me. Witness: Retract Your Vote.
To quote:

'We've been jibbed. He should use his powers for good, not evil. We have not gotten what we paid for and we want our money back!...Did we pay our 50 cent per vote to promote the political leanings of an extremist posing as a singer?'

I would like to kiss whoever started this site on their perfect little bottom.

i am thinking that if we cut off the fro he'll melt into oblivion - sort of a cross between sampson and the wicked witch.

i have long suspected he is working on the side of evil. i mean come on, he sung a song called 'kryptonite'.

He doesn't know the meaning of the word altruism. Seriously, you should have seen the dumb fuck on "Who wants to watch Eddie Maguire?"

Yes, his bitch tits screamed "I plan on doing the work of Family First, like it or lump it, heathens!"

I'm gutted. I've stood up for Guy countless times. I plan on launching my own protest - I refuse to do the patented All I Need Is You Guy Sebastian fist-dance from now on. That'll show him!

I'm with you Jess. I have always defended him on the grounds that 'Out With My Baby,' and 'All I Need Is You' were pure joyous unashamed poppy goodness. And this is the thanks I get.

I really didn't think he was this stupid. You're a fool, 'Fro.

On the other hand, as my younger brother, the Boy Wonder, just offered, 'It does give a whole new meaning to "Out With My Baby."'

HE MADE ME WRITE IT! I SWEAR!

So, you wont vote for a singer in a singing competition because of his politics. Makes sense.

I wouldn't say that we wouldn't vote for him because he believes that stuff. People did know he was a religious Christian when he won. More that it's sad as hell that he is using his position to pressure others into his beliefs. That is just fucked!

Come now... we don't know that he'll be pressuring anyone. Right to lifers have just as much right to offer their views as do people who are pro choice.

My biggest concern with Guy is not that he's a pro lifer, but that he would appear to be into that whole charismatic, hillsong 'god wants you to be wealthy' scene. ...Creepy fuckers that they are.

And I've asked before, but have never really got much of a straight answer. What exactly is peoples issue with family first? We live in a country where John Howards liberal party is in charge and the oppositions only tactic seems to be to mirror their policies... and the political party that cops the most shit is the one with the halfway compassionate stance on immigration. What gives? Is this just anti christian backlash? Or have I missed something?

All I can say again is that I hate the latte left as much as I hate the right.

You watch a fucking stupid show like Australian Idol who create a "pop star", help their ratings by watching the show, brainwash a bunch of children ( and adults with the same level of maturity as children) into buying the crap that they manufacture, which through your watching the show and voting for the contestants you have helped to promote, and then get pissed off when the moron you voted for turns out to be evil. Are you that fucking stupid?

No wonder the Liberals are in power and the ALP these days are run by a bunch of right-wing rednecks.

Gay Sabastian is a national hero. We love him. We believe in him. We need him. He can almost dance, he can almost sing, and almost appear legitimate. He is the epitome of pop in the new millenium. Almost talented people, who without the invention of game shows/singing contests for people without drive and ambition, and those who wish to short cut to fame, we would not live in this blissfully distinctive mediocre world. Pop lives! Reality singing shows rule! I am a bitter actor. Kill me, I like drama... and things that are almost good.

hello ben? the family fist want to burn lezzos (comme moi) at the stake. Much as i think i'd make a delicious bbq, there are a few things i'd like to do with my life before i test out that theory.

the troubling bit about the family fist is that when they say "family" they mean, "married, hetero, nuclear, christian family where the husband provides and the wife obeys, and the children don't listen to any of that devil-music".

And when they say "let's have family impact statements" they mean, "let's get rid of the anti-discrimination act and the anti-vilification acts, outlaw those nasty homos, get those lezzos off the tv screens (and our streets), abolish abortion and change the family law act so that only christian hetero parents living in holy matrimony are allowed to see their children."

Just have a peek at their actual work in South Australia and it becomes pretty clear. As much as they deny it, all but about 5 of their representatives are members of the Assemblies of God church - an evangelical christian sect encompassing "Hillsong" and "Paradise" and which works on the idea that if you're rich, it must be because God is happier with you than everyone else.

the only "anti-christian backlash" is towards parties which try and impose their fundamentalist views upon others under the supposedly neutral banner of "family". If they came out and said, "hey we're fundos and we think you are all going to HELL" then at least it would be a bit more honest. But then, fred nile already has that party.

and on guy - i never trusted him. especially when he makes cute statements like, "politics? ha! i know nothing about politics, except that some good friends of mine in Adelaide have just started a political party called family fist, and you should all vote for them kiddies"

jellyfish - your brother is a genius! If sebastian does start up his fetus-love "clinic" then we should surround it with speakers playing "out with my baby" 24 hrs a day.

Oh come on. One door nocking psycho made that comment about lesbians being burned at the stake. To try to tie that to the party is pretty fuckin lazy work.

As for whatever their stance may be on homosexuality... I might disagree with it, but as long as they're not in a position to legislate some 'ban all gayness' act (not that there's any evidence as far as I can see that they would ever want to) I don't much care if their values are old fashioned.

The point is that whatever you may think of family first, the people in power now are for my money far, far more dangerous. What family first represent to me is an opportunity for a political party with actual ties to those in power to make some difference for the good of our nation. Is it ironic that a powerful voice of opposition to the governments cruel immigration policies would come from the religious right? ...Maybe, maybe not. But it sure don't look like it'll be coming from the innefectual, irrelevant left anytime soon. Taking pot shots at family first = too easy.

"More that it's sad as hell that he is using his position to pressure others into his beliefs."

Guy Sebastian isn't pressuring anyone into his beliefs. Women are free to ignore his advice.

"And when they say "let's have family impact statements" they mean, "let's get rid of the anti-discrimination act and the anti-vilification acts...

Of course nobody would ever partake in vilification around here.

"No wonder the Liberals are in power and the ALP these days are run by a bunch of right-wing rednecks."

The Liberals are in power because the Left is filled with pathological hatred for anyone who disagrees with their worldview, particularly John Howard. Exhibit A - this thread.

Please keep this stuff coming guys, John Howard has at least another 20 years left in him yet.

Australia has never appeared to be an outwardly religious country. Our politicians and celebrities usually dont get involved in decisions that are better made in consultation with health professionals. I dont want church and state to become blurred. Some may say guy sebastians choice to become involved is going to offer women counselling in one of the biggest decisions a woman has to make, whereas I believe it is the beggining of a platform for religious zealots to drum up support for their draconian policies. This whole issue is better dealt with by people who have the professional experience to help guide the decisions of women who deserve the choice to determine the future of the lives of all involved. Not some whackjob that cant look past a book that was written thousands of years ago and is meant to be taken metaphorically. Religion cannot and should not even enter into the equation when the government draws up policy regarding the rights and choices of australian citizens. Just look to america for a look at what happens when God takes control of the goverment. We've already had one lunatic walk into an abortion clinic and start shooting. guy sebastian and his conservative friends are just contributing to a climate where these freaks believe they are justified

Guy Sebastian is real. What you see is what you get. He has his beliefs, he has his faith and he lives it. And if you guys get offended by someone living what they believe, then maybe you should take a good hard look at yourselfs.

And the comments, the put downs, the blatently unsubstantiated comments. What do you want. Do you want everyone in Australia to just sit down and shut up and never stand for what they believe in.

Guy Sebastian is a genuine, giving, dedicated, hardworking, talented human being. I wish there were more people out there like him.

Guy Sebastian is the poular cultural tool of the AOGs. The church has always been driven by materialist ideologies and cannot help itself from wanting power - I witnessed this many years ago back in the 1980s - and members of Paradise had told me (back then) that they intended to take thier crusade into the political arena. Enter Family First - the political arm of the radical right fundamentalist AOGs. To soften the blow of their grab for power we have Guy Sebastian. He's the propganda puppet of the church - there to win over the respect and hearts of the youth.
And slowly and surely the Fundamentalists will begin to tighten their grip over the liberties of Australian society.......

Guy Sebastian has an opinion about abortion. So do you. Without differences in opinion, the World wouldn't go down. To say that Guy isn't perfectly entitled to speak about his opinion is completely hypocritical. What if people started saying that you're all trying to brainwash people into HAVING abortions? It's two ends of the scale. Tom Cruise is speaking about Scientology. So what? He's entitled to. So give it a rest and stop getting your panties in a twist. Guy stands up for a lot more morals than the average Australian celebrity, and I admire that very much.
