HNY.
A few wee New Year's Resolutions for this here two thousand and seven:
To hold you accountable, fuckface.

And you, mister. Take off that badge, for god's sake.
Oh, lots more of this

And this

Also: I am going to convert this man and make him impregnate me. Apologies to the homosexuals of RYWHM, this one is just too good to give up.
Can I exchange you one? How about James Mathieson? He'd make a nice gay.

These men are going to come on my radio show and make verbal love to me. PLEASE GOD OF NEW YEAR'S PLEASE.

*sighs happily*
Additionally: More goodtimes with dog of the year

(This particular look says to me 'mother, this demeans us both'.)

I'm going to hold you to task, young man. Do us proud.

You don't know it yet, but I am going to join your band.
*sends hypnotically suggestive brainwaves*
Oh, and one more thing:

To do everything I can to wipe that fucking smile off your face, boyo. Because even though those hapless 3000 once lived in a faraway land, you are still saturated with their blood. And we will not let you forget.
312 days til the next election.
Comments
here here, lovely lady.
to all of it.
especially the threeways and the accountability.

Hi fits. In a discussion early on New Year's Day, the subject of "bloody liberal voters" came up, as it often does after a few drinks and a late night stroll through the parks of Melbourne.
Anyway, it came up that most people do indeed vote for what is best for them and their families, it appears. Unfortunate that altruism is all too often tainted with self interest at some level, and "pure altruism" probably doesn't exist at all, people vote for whoever (apparently) understands them best and gives them what they want, with not too much thought given to those in situations unlike their own.
Bearing this in mind, and admittedly bagging politicians for being such horribly two faced backflipping slippery scuz buckets is excepted, is it not uncharitable to attack someone for making a decision based on factors unknown?
If someone makes a political choice, it is theirs to make, that is a democratic right I would die for, but to attack them for it does two things:
a. Comes across as somewhat fascist, in that there is a right and a wrong way to think/behave/vote/drink tea
and b. alienates said person from listening to any counter-argument to their reasoning which you may wish to present. Nobody likes being attacked, they instantly go on the back foot, and enter defensive mode, where they will irrationally defend their beliefs against all logical and reasonable opposition.
While I disagree with the policies of the conservative element in this country, to attack them for looking out for their own interests is ultimately counter productive, isn't it? Should we not befriend and engage with them, and gently demonstrate the superiority of what we believe, rather than fruitlessly descend into the dichotomous slanging match which inevitably results from this approach?
I do agree that those ugly fuckers should be held accountable for their actions, let me just remind you that there is nothing better than a good glassing!
I as well can't wait to see that smile wiped of his smug face.
All the best for '07.
Great set of resolutions. I'm really hoping for a bit more accountability and a hell of a lot more nude reading. I think that has to be just about the sexiest thing there is, and the world really could do more with a bit of nuded up intellectualism in these politically frightening times.
Have a great 2007.
Bravo L.S, beautifully said. I very much enjoy the Fits however the sometimes mindless right-wing bashing gets too much. Fair enough Fitsy and others hate Howard, loath Costello, etc etc (and they have a right to do so) but there is a solid undertone that anyone who has voted for them is equally to blame for their alleged wrongdoings, and deserves to be treated with ridicule and scorn.
The same people, however, regard themselves as objective, enlighted free thinkers who are accepting of concepts and ideas based purely on their merit, and will not be led by the masses (*thinks of the 'were all individuals' scene in Life of Brian*) Yet their behaviour is anything but - most appear to believe that if you voted liberal, you're a fuckwit. Full stop.
Do you guys really believe that Labor and the Greens are any less guilty of the lies, twisted half-truths and downright deception that is politics? If you do, then you are clearly deluded.
I don't believe that at all, Donkey. That's why one of my resolutions is to keep an eye on Kevin. A CLOSE EYE.
I wasn't sugesting for a moment that the Australian people aren't a bunch of self serving sheep, with a penchant for overspending their annual budget and a blatant disregard for anyone with whom they didn't attend school - just that they don't necessarily like to have it shoved in their faces over dinner.
Do you think Spencer Tunick would appreciate Glenny B's use of his art on Best of the Brat's MySpace page?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?xml=/arts/2006/05/16/batunick16.xml&sSheet=/arts/2006/05/16/ixartleft.html
Fuck being considerate. Howard is an utter scumbag! & as far as i'm concerned anyone who suppourts his policies is a warmonger cunt!
Us lefties are to fucken weak, we need balls. We need millitance. Befriend the enemy & discuss cricket over tea?
FUCK THAT!
I mean, Spencer Tunick's art isn't smutty, is it?
I can't believe you didn't have an Abbott related New years resolution.
And so the left is banished to the wilderness for another term.
Shame, really. I don't think most people even think about "the war" when they vote, to be honest.
Yes, it makes them foolish and small minded, but in order to get elected, these are the people that the left must appeal to.
The alternative is to take power by force, which has had a less than impressive history of success.
Wow, you really hate Liberals. I once thought that if I ever saw our PM in public I would hurl offensive invective at him until I was crash tackled to the ground by his security forces. These days, I think I would just run the other way before going home to soak in holy water while reading Gough Whitlam's biography. It would just be simpler that way. (My preferred Prime Minister is still Paul Keating.) Anyway, now that everyone but John Howard's old headmaster (RIP) is speaking out for Hicks, are we going to see a policy change on this? Is he waiting for a word from Janet? Would he be cheap enough to do something in time for the next election?
PS Glad you found out that Simon Amstell was gay. I didn't want to be the one to break it to you.
I am more devastated about Simon Amstell being gay than I am about the Liberals being in power, Alf. HOW COULD YOU BREAK MY HEART IN SUCH A FASHION.
I really had no conception of the cataclysmic events I unleashed a few weeks ago. There is a recipe that might console you on my blog - but i doubt it.
Doesn't bob ellis look sweet!
My mum's dog, Zoe, has a christmas collar she wore all day.
My sister's cat, Sami, has a santa hat that she wore for approximately 30 seconds before bolting and not coming back until boxing day and all the insanity was over.
Cats can be such wise creatures when they choose, can't they?
Dear Ms Fits, Happy New Year!
2007, eh? Surely the year the Sniveller and his culpable cohorts are relegated to the footnotes of history where they so deservedly belong. Five times would be just too too embarrassing.
Cheers for visiting my blog and perusing the early stumbling chapters of my so-called novel in progress. This Thurs 4 Jan I unleash the *infamous* - at least amongst my small circle of communards - CHAPTER 8!! If you happen to take a squiz best not to do so right after dinner - my proofreader fled halfway through with a nosebleed!
All the best for 07 - keep stirring the possum, and womanning the barricades - were right behind you - surely a pleasant place to be. Forgive my brashness, tis the silly season after all - *hic!*
May the road rise with you ... Coreman.
P.S. There is no such thing as mindless rightwing bashing!
Your dog has sweet eyes and a surprisingly dignified demeanour for someone with fake antlers Alice Banded to their head.
Happy new year, Fits.
There is such a thing as mindless right wing bashing, no matter what one thinks of the actual politicians.
The simple equation is that there are, at any moment, a finite number of voters in this country. In order for the current government to be ousted from their perches, it will be necessary to convince a proportion of those voters who voted in their favour last time to vote against them next time.
I just don't think that shaming them into it is the most productive way to do so. Nor is telling them they are fuckwits. One thing the Church learned early on about keeping flock numbers high, was to forgive the wayward children, for they know not what they do.
And surely that mob know where it's at when it comes to conversion of unbelievers.
Yay for the Last Scientician. He says what I want to say but smarterer.
last scientician, grab some tissues and clean up your stigmata, it's not a pretty sight, sooky-boy!
Stigmata? I'm not having a sook. I just want the best possible chance of getting Howard et al. out of office this year. Telling people they are ignorant cunts is not going to improve that chance.
I'm no saint, this is a purely political point of view.
but telling ignorant cunts that they are indeed ignorant cunts just feels so good. and i don't think what fits posts on this blog is really going to sway the masses enough one way or the other in terms of voting swings. sorry fits, you know i love you, but unless you have like er 8 million people reading this blog, then i don't think that will happen.
so in the meantime, isn't it all about cutting loose and expressing oneself?
happy new year etc.
x
ps tls i usually agree with you, and you do write way smarterer than many.
I totally agree, MG. The readers of this blog are probably not numerous enough, or well placed enough to bring down the Howard regime. But as demonstrated by several directed campaigns against her person in the last couple of years, it's not insignificant.
Coupled with the fact that it isn't too hard for most people to make the connection between MsFits and several other identities, the effect is cumulative. Easy to use her opinions as expressed here to put spin on commentary she may have in other media formats.
But, my initial comment wasn't directed solely at Fisty, it was a more general observation about the easy points to be scored from stating an agreed position to a compliant audience. There will be plenty of time for laughing at members of the Liberal Party when they are in opposition.
the lost scientician,
you academics sitting in your padded chairs in your air-conditioned offices are so condescendingly reasonable - go live in a detention centre for awhile - go live in Iraq - go live in a remote Aboriginal settlement -think you'll still be mincing about tinkling your fingerbells?
poderouus, man, ponderous ... you've become howardised and don't even realise it.
Happy New Year Ms Fitz.
Thanks for a wonderful blog.
May the dark veil that enshrouds this land and scuttles its moral compass be lifted, come the next Federal election.
who needs politics when you have threeways and reading in the nude?
make it so, new years' pixie.
What do you propose, kamikaze? A violent overthrow of the democratically elected government followed by a national purge of heretics?
Have you been to Iraq? Lived in a detention centre? Or a remote aboriginal community? Probably not, it's just rhetorical posturing.
If you are serious about getting rid of the Howard government, and I have my doubts, then what I've said is logical. It makes you mad? Bite your tongue. The only way to have a new alternative government is to convince the Liberal voters of three years ago that Johnny and Co. aren't the only show in town.
It doesn't take individual issues like aboriginal health, illegal wars and inhumane detention to make me realise I don't agree fundamentally with this government. I have known that for years.
Would you vote for them if the indigenous people were happy, the war was over, and the detainees were free? I still wouldn't.
But there's no magic cavalry of voters who are going to change the next election result, it's only the ones who voted in the last one, plus as many as have come of age in the last two years. This is simple maths, and basic psychology. It's not rocket science.
Hey, last whatever.
You have a blog, right? That's what the link indicates?
Why don't you spend more time there.. hitting F5 every ten minutes.. take a few penis shots
Do you really think you're adding value? Or perhaps that you might have missed the point of a blog completely?
PS There is a right way to think, usw. Some of us will spend their lives trying to discern the difference.
PPS Sorry for the negativity, Mfits. You know... Oprah has a BOOK CLUB.
i completely agree with you tls, in what you've just said. but how does it get done? ie what can we do? in practical terms, how does a person or a group of people get other people who voted for the coalition at the last one or two elections to vote for labor at the next? like fits said, we are all turned with shining faces to the beacon that is the kev and julia show. beyond that?
[shrugs]
the lost scientician,
bite my tongue? sieg heil!
only have to scratch the surface ...
MG, I don't know, I think it takes more than just railing against the incumbents and calling their constituents derogatory names to make real change. Lots of people did that last time, to no avail.
Being right doesn't guarantee victory.
And please, comparisons to the Nazis. Well done.
Oh, Simon, yeah, i do have a blog, but was responding to stuff here. I guess if Fits didn't like it she could delete my comments, but she's not into censorship, apparently. And, yeah, as some people have agreed with me, and some have disagreed, I would have thought that meant there was some value in it for some people.
re that scientist bloke, why don't he just come clean and admit he's a Liberal stooge trying to muddy the waters, assuage the Zeitgeist, emasculate the war-weary and shit?
anger is an energy ... he obviously wears beige.
Ms Fits where are ya? say somthing funny.

Counting the civilian cost in Iraq
More than 1,600 US soldiers have been killed since the invasion of Iraq in March 2003. Other coalition allies are mourning dozens of their own fighting men and women.
There is no official record of how many Iraqi civilians have died
Thousands of Iraqi civilians have also died as a result of conflict and its bloody aftermath - but officially, no one has any idea how many.
Human rights groups say the occupying powers have failed in their duty to catalogue the deaths, giving the impression that ordinary Iraqis' lives are worth less than those of soldiers.
Unofficial estimates of the civilian toll vary wildly, from at least 10,000 to about 100,000.
__________________________
No one knows how many people's husbands, wives, lover's, children, grandmas et al have died. And it seems that most people don't really care. Most of them don;t really even care about the 'important' 3000.
Oh bugger, now I'm all depressed. Sorry. I just had to point out that it's not just 3000 lives.
Here's why the left has been in trouble for over ten years. Any voice of dissent over HOW things should be done, (not even what needs to be done) is shouted down.
If you think I'm a Liberal stooge, there is no hope in winning back people who actually voted for the current government.
I'd be happy to hear anyone else's plan regarding wresting the reins of power away from Abbott & Costello. I thought this was a democracy, and it was all about the election. Clearly I am out of touch.
