I don't think there are significant flaws in it; it's well done.
As part of the fits fan club (member No. #27,355) I might be biased, but my partner isn't. She's highly critical, and I had to twist her arm to watch it, and she liked it and is hooked.
Personally I did think it might be crap; it's quite an ask to write a TV show and pull it off, but have been pleasantly surprised, it really is good stuff.
'Problems' the show has, as with any decent aussie pilot, have as much to do with the economics of a station buying a licence for a US show vs building a show up from scratch, which work much the same way as your next door neighbour deciding to set a cafe up next to starbucks on swanston street.
'Good', ie entertaining, US shows are also the best from a market that (a) has the most comprehensive entertainment industry infrastructure in the world and (b) numbers 250 million.
OK, that's my morning rant, this thread seemed as good a spot as any to go on a tirade.

Not exactly sure how we ended up on the topic of Last Man Standing... but have been surprised to not hear about it on this site earlier. I've found it kinda strange that the topic doesn't often come up. I am interested to hear what fans of Fitz (and her detractors) honestly think of the show.
Having watched the show with interest, and having hoped for good things having read this site often enough, I've not ended up being much of a fan. I'm not a rabid hater of it either, but it has flaws that go right to its DNA. Flaws that the producers should have been able to predict before making such a significant investment in a product like this. The writing is occasionally competent, but is usually cliched and uninspired. This is not neccesarily the fault of Fitz, as no writer should be asked to write a whole series by herself. The fact that she has put together so many scripts is an incredible accomplishment and as a writer myself it gives me nightmares to imagine such a job - but it's taken it's toll on the quality of the show.
More than that though - there are things about the show I resent. Firstly, I resent that no tv show can get made in this country without being overtly 'aussie', and that's as true of this show as any other on air. I also resent the 'maleness' factor. I feel like a show like Last Man Standing is the equivalent of a show where girls are depicted having pillow fights and cooking for ther husbands every week without a trace of irony. Maybe I hang with a different crowd, but it feels to me like a dishonest and stereotypical depiction of what guys are like. And it bugs me... it bugs me the same way beer commercials bug me. It makes me feel as though I am being condascended to.
Also a lot of the sexuality in the show feels desperate and tacked on, like some executive with a pie chart decided that the show needed more explicit sex in it - 'I hear sex is hot right now, guys... go team!' The Cooks had the same problem. And both shows were clearly pitched in the wake of Secret Life of us. One moderate success does not mean we need to see the same show over and over again.
I look forward to Fitz doing more work in the future man, because I think she sometimes writes some pretty funny stuff on this site. I just hope that next time she works on something like this it's under better circumstances. Considering the high turnout of scripts she wrote on this show, I still feel like I don't know what sort of writer she would make if she had a more reasonable schedule.

Oh and on re-reading that bit about the quality of the writing I realised that it sounds way harsher than it's meant to.
