Stop press:
Man of the cloth makes sexually insensitive remarks about women and hardly anyone gives two-thirds of a rat's keister.
To quote:
'Pastor David Hodgens, of the Warrnambool and District Baptist Church, defended his comments, saying he was only putting forward Christian ideas about modesty of dress.
Mr Hodgens wrote in his reflections column in last Wednesday's Warrnambool Standard that "leering at a woman in particularly tight or revealing clothing is wrong but so is dressing in a way that is known, even designed, to entice others to sexual desire".
His comments followed the controversy surrounding senior Muslim cleric Sheikh Taj al-Din al-Hilali, who suggested that provocatively dressed women were encouraging sexual assault.
"I confess to being very uncomfortable with the tone and reported content of the sheikh's comments . . . however, one of the things that seems to have been lost in the ensuing discussion is whether or not the point he seemed to be trying to make . . . ought to be examined. Is there a link between provocative dress and sexual assault?" Mr Hodgens wrote.'

*demands Mr Hodgens renounce Australian citizenship*
*fades away into oblivion*

It's been a good week for religious nutters everywhere.
Want to know how to end the drought- Griffith Baptist Pastor Kevin Webb knows how:
“We see the lack of rain as an indication of a lack of spirituality,” he said. “If we get our spirituality back the rain will come.”
Yes he actually said that.

Thank god -- a mufti of the Christian variety confirming that the "blame the victim mentality" is common to both Islam and Christianity. Can we please have a rabbi stand up and confirm religious Jews have no less despicable view on women responsibility to protect themselves from rape by exposing naught above the ankle.
Ahhh the old "rapists don't rape people, short skirts do".
Can't we all just agree that they're* all a bit fucked up, and that anyone who gets all their rules out of one book** needs to stay in more (and shut the fuck up).
Howard better be all over this like a [insert inappropriate comparison of choice]
* those who have "the religious"
** Except for this one
i like to make it easy for everyone by sewing "please viloently rape me" across all my short skirts, tight jeans and revealing tops.
i can do the same for any of you ladies out there for a small fee.
i'm surprised the church hasn't a stock standard line for little boys yet...
Ah, how double standards never fail to amuse me.
Religion is fucked. Period.
To be fair, he didn't refer to women as 'meat' and suggest that anyone who is raped should go to jail. The Christian dude put it a little more serenely than that. And that, my dear, is the difference between Christians and Mussies.
It was only a matter of time.
That one teeny difference, Broznia? Dang, why all the fussing and fighting then?
sorry, Broznia - no 'faith' has a mortgage on grace; the Christian bible says plenty of fucked things about sexuality. Serene my arse.
And i can't believe it even bears fucking re-stating, but just in case anyone wants to see any merit in these spiritual fucknuts' words, a woman *should* be able to walk stark raving naked down the middle of any fucking high street and not fear for her safety; sexual availability is not about what you wear, and is not the right of random onlookers or passersby. EVER. End of. Fact.
No one wants to be raped. Wanting sexual attention is not the same thing. I do not give the church or its leaders – of any denomination – permission to determine the moral righteousness of womens' autonomy over their own minds/hearts/bodies/desire.
Fuck you all, godboys.
*stands and applauds*

Rubydoomsday,
Seriously, have you ever thought of becoming a speech writer?
That, or a shockjock on RRR.
Try again:
Ruby, you have just replaced Ian McKaye as my poster boy. That was right up there with 'Suggestion'.
(Ignore the misplaced apostrophes)
but ruby, were were you when the mufti tufti made a fuss the first time around? why is it you only react when a christian says a fuckawful stupid thing?
Yay- Ian Mackaye lyric off!
'Filler'.
http://theroundoffice.com/
Loving it.
Ahh the "serenity" is the difference between the religions.
So christians are serene/discreet with their shit
Bronzia, the question you should ask yourself* is why is that society at large only react when muslims say something?
*Also the point of the post, by the by.
"And i can't believe it even bears fucking re-stating, but just in case anyone wants to see any merit in these spiritual fucknuts' words, a woman *should* be able to walk stark raving naked down the middle of any fucking high street and not fear for her safety; sexual availability is not about what you wear, and is not the right of random onlookers or passersby. That's a naive old-style feminist thing to say. Perhaps she *should* be able to, but you wouldn't recommend it, would you?
You wouldn't recommend that somebody gets drunk and walks on the freeway.
A little common sense, please. Feminism is supposed to be about equal rights and equal responsibilities. Also, let's acknowledge that men and women do have differences.
Heh nice one. More lyrics from the man: I Will Refuse
broznia, i think that when ruby said:
"fuck you all, godboys."
he made himself pretty clear. do try and keep up.
but it took a Christian's speech misdemeanour to spark the rage of Rubydoomsday, because no-one would ever dare criticise the mufti tufti just like that, on its own...
I'd say plenty of people criticised the 'mufti tufti', Anon. Including several of our own.
I do very much like your 'phat ryhmes', though.
Rubes, you're my damn hero.
Now wouldnt it be nice if one of those parasites, who claim to be journalists, corner Johny boy and ask him to comment on the writings, of a certain Baptist pastor, who has deeply disturbing views on what women might expect if they wear certain types of clothing?
Na, it would just interfere with the war on terrorism.
"A little common sense, please. Feminism is supposed to be about equal rights and equal responsibilities. Also, let's acknowledge that men and women do have differences."
Oh... my... I shall take a deep breath, kitten, because you are wrong.
Step A - what is this 'equality' of which you speak? Does it mean we all have the right to be suit-wearing heterosexual white men with Good Jobs who Pay Their Taxes and Mow Their Lawns? Does it mean women have the right to a spurious choice between having 2 and having 3? Does it mean the Coloureds are just as equal as the rest of us so long as they keep their heads down and don't make the grand 'us' feel uncomfortable with their difference?
There's a reason why a lot of people (not enough) have been critical of the backlash against Sheikh Hilali. The spate of high profile sexual assaults recently has illustrated that sexual violence against women is endemic in our society, and attitudes like [that guy in Warrnambool]'s don't help a jot. But sexual violence always get shifted onto someone else. It's the Muslim men who are violent, not Christians. It's a few freaks on a boat, not an entire masculine culture.
Rape is about power, not sex. It's about proving you have power over someone else. It's about time we recognised rape for what it is, violence against women,* rather than making it yet another issue of ethnicity in our shamefully racist country.
* I'll recognise here that men are raped, too, but I's talking about violence against women here.
detractors – i only piped up *now* because so many mainstream media commentators did exactly what bronzai did and used the incident to point-score for Team Jesus (naughty, naughty muslim!), when the incident was patently about a destructive and dangerous opinion of women's autonomy of expression and behaviour and how it should be self-regulated 'for "their" own good'. *never looking at (presumably men's, in this case) responsibility for their own behaviour*. victim-blaiming, as well as an infantilising and patronising view of women is offensive in the extreme and of perpetual concern to feminists of every generation. IF ONLY this sort of ignorance would die out.
(sorry to hijack yr comments, fits, and ta for the props sub, dr et al).
Dear Folks
OMG/ALLAH THE BIBLE/KORAN IS SUDDENLY SEXIST AND STUPID!?! WTF WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN.
Kind Regards,
As one of a pretty small number of Christians who regularly comment around here, this would be a good time to say I agree with everything rubydoomsday said from "And I can't believe it even bears fucking re-stating" onwards.
Except for "fuck you all, godboys" (obvs)
RubyDoomsday you are awesome.
What i find hard to believe is the lack of men saying, "hang on, I can fucking control my sexual urges, I'm not an anmimal".
By animal i'm not just referring to the Mufti's, cat and raw meat analogy, but also the Christian dude who believes a womans attire is to blame for rape.
For fucks sake. What are you saying about your own gender? You have no control?
Clearly, both religions believe that men are poor, hapless, sex crazed, retards who can't help but pounce on evil women who dare to flaunt their sexuality.
That's a whole bunch of fucked up wrongness right there.
I thought the same thing when I read this, fits.
Hypocrisy is alive and well in Australia.
Fits,
Did you see on the latest edition of the Age Reader feedback that someone wrote nice things about your recent articles?
Agree with Steph, suggesting women are responsible for men's behaviour is the same as using 'being pissed' as an excuse. Almost all men are responsible for their own urges, and control them quite well. if you think that's bullshit, because you might know a dickhead or two that cant, why not walk around a shopping centre past hundreds of men - you wont be assaulted. Re Ruby, the vast majority of religious people devote their lives to helping others and are sadly vilified due to the actions of a handful of 'fucknuts' (i think was your expression?) And finally, maybe the reason Hilally (sp) is getting a hard time is that Christian clergy are not enouraging harm to others in the name of their religion. Fuck political correctness.
you should have a look at this

Death to all who preaches intolerance.
Of course I meant to type 'preach' instead of 'preaches'. Death to all grammar nazis.
