- K-Rudd is playing it safe by not trying to alienate the fuckwits he needs to vote Labor at the next election. Simple. It's a pretty ambiguous statement that isn't defending Jones at all. I hope he feels sick to the stomach for doing it.

I'm a bit disappointed that the Kevinator hasn't taken Iemma's recent lead on Jones (who didn't go on his show once during the campaign).

Jones gives the Tories a free kick at every available opportunity anyway, so I suspect the Kevinator's non-response was more about not offending Jones' listeners... And, incidentally, they're the same section of the population that Kiddies Overboard appealed to. People didn't care that Howard et al lied because the basis of the lie was a shared prejudice. Attack Jones and you're attacking the values they share with him.

UGH. I was listening to Jon Faine's program this morning, he was discussing this issue. Some of the people that rang up... I was ashamed to be Australian. I was flabbergasted by some of the comments people made.

For a second there I thought a Jagerschnitzel was some kind of magical Chicken Parma and Jagermeister crossbreed.

Totally agree with the thrust of this - classic Howard dog-whistling - but to be a tiny bit fair I'm pretty sure that the second quote is not a direct quote from Jones as such, but a comment he read out on air. Only slightly less horrendous (since he still made the choice to read it) but it's nice to have the moral high ground of strict accuracy.

Crikey had a good story a couple of days ago about the Parrot's waning influence. It's a shame to see Kevin apparently won't be following the advice of that story by declining to appear on his program.

Just found out about Kurt Vonnegut's passing away. Really enjoyed his many novels. Shame more of them didn't reach the screen. Poo tee weet. Hi ho. So it goes.

I could never see how "he/she is saying what a lot of people think" is any kind of defence. Bin Laden says what a lot of people think too, and John Howard's not applauding his radio show. Not that he should: the only good part of bin Laden's radio show is the sports quiz, but you get my point.

I can march to Fed Square with a loudspeaker calling for John Howard to be strapped to a chocolate wheel and licked to death by ponies, and there's no harm done if I'm articulating what a lot of people think.

I suppose the idea is that Jones is performing a public service because the people he speaks for can't articulate anything for themselves.
