Sometimes I know just how he feels.
Things I said I would do if faced with a Howard victory:
- Move to New Zealand.
- Shoot myself*.
- Bitch-slap a Liberal voter should I run into them on the street.
- Weep buckets.
- Drink gin at 9 in the morning.
- Hide under the blankets on my octagonal vinyl-look bed.
- Phone Bob Ellis and ask him for advice on where to go from here.
- Curl up into a ball and moan.
- Make a fuzzy-letter t-shirt that said: 'IF YOU VOTED LIBERAL, GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY FACE'.
- Wash.
Things I said I would do if faced with a Howard/Bush double-banger:
- Move to New Zealand. No, seriously.
- Drink. A lot.
- Call all my beloved Seppo friends and leave long, rambling messages on their answering machines making sure they're okay.
- Meet people and sit for a long time shaking my head at the futility of it all.
- Take comfort in the fact that surely folk wouldn't be stupid enough to vote them both in again next time. SURELY .
- Pine for Gabi .
- Listen to the Pogues ' 'Dirty Old Town' and make sad faces like Charlene in the I've Never Been To Me film-clip.
Now, I did most of those things. Except move to New Zealand, but I'm totally going there in a couple of weeks time so I will scope the place and get back to you. Maybe we could split a room. Do you like to spoon?
I guess I am kind of sweeping and melodramatic when it comes to things like politics. I like to think that the state of the world sometimes hurts so much that it is truly unbearable. So when I read about something like this , I don't necessarily feel condemnation or pity. I just feel kind of like there's kindred spirits out there somewhere. Which can't be a bad thing, given how many arse-rags are also loitering on the sidelines.
*This, of course, in jest. As I clearly have too much to live for, being such a vital and rock member of society. Also, I have reservations at Ezard .
5 days til Gabi comes home.
1065 days til the next election.

When I saw that story yesterday morning I was initially startled but then, on my way to work, I couldn't stop thinking about it and was chilled when I realised that I wasn't shocked by the act - I understood that frustration and hopelessness. I mean, four more years of Bush? I think when it actually sinks in for me that we have to face FOUR MORE YEARS of that retard in power my drinking problem is going to rapidly worsen. Oh well!
On a lighter note: Reservations at Ezard?? Wow. Please promise to write a full on gastro-porn review afterwards.
JUST what this country needs, another jaded inner-city neo-bohemian.
Hey Pinko,
The majority of Australians want you out! Why don't you just move to NZ? better for you, better for us.
Yay! Just what this country needs! Another agressive Right Wing psycho too scared to do anything other than post mindless bullshit taddle anonymously!
Wow! You clever speak redneck good Anon!
And Fitsy, how'd he know your nickname was Pinko?
Or should I say, How'd SHE know your nickname was Pinko?
I'm happier with more jaded inner-city neo-bohemians than more right wing, war mongering, George W cocksuckers you cowardly bastard
Ah! I feel slightly better now!
'Pinko'. Gold.
A thoughtful post Ms Fits. Damn sad about that guy who shot himself. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
You're getting low on expletives thou. I only saw "arse-rags" and the aformentioned "GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY FACE". Have you given up the swears?
Strangely (or perhaps not), I briefly misread "Post a Comment" as "Post a Communist".
Perhaps consider changing the link to "Shoot a Fascist" (to make it easier to process for those who haven't yet imbibed 2l of caffeine).
Worth reading Mark Morford's take at SF Gate about why those on the left shouldn't just up and move to Canada. Or NZ in our case.
It's far from over. The tunnel is just a little darker -- and longer -- than we imagined.I'm pretty sure it's still ok to bitch-slap Liberal voters, too.
I think New Zealand filled their quota of bizarro-eco-communist weird women last century.
First of all the reason I am signing this anonymously is that I am too lazy to join up as a member (which may seem like a bit of contradiction when you see my next point, but anyway). Secondly like many of you the victory of Adolf Bush and Benito Howard has filled me with sorrow and anger. However the reality is we have to move on from this. How? Be involved in making your community/country a world a better place. Work in a job where you canmake a positive difference (even though you may get paid less than a job that makes no difference or makes things worse). Join a union or a progressive political party and be active in them. Join community organisations that work for a more just society, such as the Refugee Action Coalition. Next local/state/federal do some volunteer work for a progressive political party. As Edmund Burke said "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." This also applies to good women. Don't just voice your frustrations on a blog site, this is tantamount to doing nothing! Go out and do something. As Ghandi siad "We must become the change we want to see." If you already do these things, good on you. If you don't what are you waiting for, it is only 1065 days until the next federal election...
I thought it was 6 days until Gabi comes back, they told me they will be flying back on the 15th? (They might have gained a day going East Phineas Fobb and Passpartout.)
Tim.
Is this the right place to leave a message for Diane Elgar?
Ms. Elgar, your suit is pressed and ready. Please contact the concierge.

I too could not be bothered signing in... but my name's Ben. ...Hey.
Again, I too was devastated by Howards victory. ...Well, that's an overstatement. By the time he won I was just sort of... cold. But I was devastated when I realised he was gonna win well before the election, due to Lathams crap campaign and general public apathy.
However, I do want to say that in spite of all that and not to mention that I dig this blog, that calling the poor soul who shot himself at the Trade Centre sight a 'kindred spirit' to me is overt sentimentality. Let's not romanticize and glamorize what happened here okay? The guy shot himself. He's dead. And his fiancé's alone. People the world over are immensely frustrated by both these election results and they haven't all committed suicide. There is more to this than a political statement and I'd hazard a guess that whatever problems this guy chose to deal with by ending his own life, the election result was the least of them.
In other news, I was interested to see that you write for Last Man Standing... I auditioned for that thing... didn't even get a callback. Nuts.
Particularly well said, Ben.
Thank you my friend...
In the meantime, you want kindred spirits... I got your kindred spirits. www.sorryeverybody.com
Oh PS. From Ben.
Heh heh... oops.
Ben you beat me to the Sorryeverybody link. There are some great pictures. I'm weeding through to find the real gems. Send me some of your favorites and I'll post 'em on my blog. If you have patience and time. I have neither today, you can find my picture and mildly amusing political commentary. If you are lazy I'll just post the picture on my blog with the rest of the Sorry Folks.
I tend to think that when people kill themselves that there is more than political depression going on. The man had problems beyond just 4 more years with the Retard Cowboy Driving Running Ranch America. Yes 4 years will be as painful as going 69 with a Rhinocerous (never again) but we'll trudge through weather the storm and embrace our Communist North Korean and Chinese Overlords.
Also, how hard is it to get a kittle bitty dirty bomb into the white house area. Get it together you terrorist pussies, I'm losing patience with these assassignation attempts. Even a failed attempt would be nice. Just cut it out with the civilian casaulties and we're almost on the same page.
Asking me to pick a favourite picture at sorryeverybody would be like asking me to pick a favourite Police Academy movie. ...They're all winners.
However, I am partial to one I viewed recently where a girl asks the world not to eat America like a giant crab.
That one tickled my fancy.
And yeah I'm so into taking the lazy option. Post away with your picture... and then post away with directions to your blog. Or screw it, I'll find it.
