WED18JUL

Sweet chalet.

I am currently working my way through the Gold Coast Hinterland with my beloved Gen, and today we hit the road once more to explore the sordid world of country townships - forgive me if my updates are sporadic. God knows where or how I'm going to manage Friday q and a.

Anyhow.

We arrived in Mt. Tamborine searching for suitable accommodation for two reasonably shabby Fitzroyal-type fruits and stumbled across an exotic looking Sound Of Music-type building which billed itself as LUXURY ACCOMMODATION FOR COUPLES.

Me: Does this mean we can't stay here?

Gen: Maybe we have to pretend to be lesbians.

Me: I'm game if you are.

Booking in itself was reasonably breezy but CAN YOU IMAGINE THE TRULY DELIGHTFUL BED OUR CHALET HAD IN STORE FOR US?

I jest not. We were in Franco Cozzo heaven.

Worth turning gay for if only for a moment, I'm sure you'd agree.

119 days til the next election.

Dear Fits,

great part of the world, the GC hinterland - hope you enjoy it. In case you haven't yet been to Byron, I'd like to point that not everything in the rainbow region is all beer and skittles, or angels and fairies, or peace and love. Check my most recent blog post, and an earlier one it refers to - there are some nasty racist bastards round these parts. Still - it's a beautiful region, and I hope you enjoy. If you're looking for a decent coffee in the Bay, try Twisted Sister (that should appeal!), or Cafe 111 - yes it's at 111 Jonson Street. Not exactly the funkiest places in the world, but great coffee and good service.
cheers, Phil

Tamborine winery sells chocolate port which is delightfully heavenly..

Then there's The Polish Place restaurant overlooking the hang gliding cliffs that is great for long afternoon beers.

Hello ms fits

I was down at mt tamborine a couple of weekends ago and am going back this weekend.

If you are still there i highly recommend the witches chase cheese company, if you like cheese (and I certainly do).

The Polish Place mentioned by someone else looks amazing and I am hoping to try it this weekend.

I'm guessing that is Polish Palace as in run by lovely Polaks... I had initially assumed it's rooms might look a little like the above...

Anyway. I too am very envious of your current environs (although those MtTamborine roads are a little hairy - esp in a clapped-out van that is not so keen on vertical climbs).
I love the hinterland, I love Byron's hinterland even more.

If people are recommending places I really don't want to be left out: Pogel's Wood cafe in Federal, a half-hour out, or 'in' rather, from Byron. The food is to. die. for! The whole time I was there people were just constantly coming in to make bookings. I love Bangalow too.
I once lived near Mullumbimby for a short while. I really miss the lush landscape, and the odd assortments of people. Perth is rather sandy and the people kinda monochromatic you see.

Ooh! If you go through Bangalow, have the gnocchi at the Bangalow pub. It comes out in two triangles and is one of the best things I've ever had in my mouth.

What's with the cheap n easy throw line about Mullum, rw? Is it like - 'I live in oh so so sophisticated Melbourne and every country town makes me puke'? Or is it specifically Mullum, in which case, tell us your story.

This is turning into Fits's personal guide to Byron and surrounds, but if you want THE BEST coffee in the region, then pace RW, but the Poinciana Cafe in Mullumbimby is where to get it - they really know their coffee. There's a nice warm fire inside, or you can play in the kiddie's sandpit outside. Great spot - visit and say hello to Simon or Jay.

hey you! i am quite sure that mister watts is referring to the fact that living in mullumbimby held for him personal and very real pain. so steady on - he is not spiteful or pompous in any way.
