I used to get the newsletter until it started to look like an elementary art school project. I dropped my membership after one year. The newsletters were always late, and those people do nothing else for those who spend hard earned money on that. They give you access to some crummy members only site, but that is all. Nothing there anyone has not already seen before. I say it's time to shut those thieves down, and for Olivia to get an official fan club that does it right. I would be ashamed to have these morons representing a "fan club" for her. They are an embarrassment.

They treat everyone that is not in their "inner circle" like disposed waste, and make sure you are alienated if you disagree with the "in crowd".

The in crowd is only Melissa, Kevin, Bill and Dale. They are the only ones to get backstage passes to see Olivia. Everyone gets told they do not get backstage. Their excuse is to sign items for the fan club drawings which is a lie.
A few people requested signed photos of Olivia and never received them. This proves that Melissa, Kevin or Dale kept the signed items from Olivia instead of giving them to fans who wanted them.
They only want people to come to the board to agree with them so they can look good to Olivia. They do not start threads, discuss things that are important to other fans or want any controversy. Melissa use to be the only one at chat and she has the attention span of an ant. Dale draws, Bill takes photo's, Kevin I am trying to figure out what he does and Melissa is suppose to put together the newsletter which is a joke. Kevin and Melissa are useless.

Kim uses the excuse that she has cancer AIDS or a drug problem or whatever else disease is popular this month to get backstage, she is trying at least. I think she is losing her status on the board and with the in crowd.

Here is the real story, Melissa banned Kiliki due to OO posters complaining about her. But by bringing her back they had to ask other people to come back who were banned recently or years ago.
Kim was one person who was on the verge of getting banned but if they ban her then they have to ban Farmer also because both of them cause trouble for management.
Kris got banned instead one reason she speaks her mind too much. I would rather see Kim banned because all she does is kiss up to people like Sky and OO management she does not contribute much to threads unless it is to agree with people.

Kiliki knows too many of OO secrets about people. Kiliki came back due to being on her best behavior plus Kevin and Dale pushing Melissa to bring her back.
When she came back, OO management had to let others come back who were banned or they were deleted.

I heard three or four people who won these monthly give aways do not exist and the prizes went to Kevin, Melissa or one of their own favorites instead.

People who get the newsletter should ask for a budget on what it takes to make a copy of the newsletter, the kind of paper it takes, the copying fees, pictures (B and W and color) and the cost of the postage. This way OO management could be truthful as to how much it costs to put out a single newsletter. If subscribers knew how much a newsletter was really worth I do not think they would subscribe to it.

Simply put no one gives a rat's ass what you think of Only Olivia or the people there. As long as Olivia loves us, (And we both know that she does) that's ALL that matters. And we both know that just kills you.

For the unaware, Only Olivia is a fan club started online by two fans, Helen and Richard, over ten years ago. Olivia has never officially sanctioned any fan club throughout her career. As a result, multiple fan sites of varying quality have proliferated on the internet for her. OO is the only one which Olivia has loosely affiliated herself with. At one time, she tolerated meeting OO fan club members backstage and has occasionally appeared at OO's annual fan conventions.

Helen and Richard decided to delegate the management of the fan club to a small clique of fans. Unfortunately, the club has been terribly mismanaged since this occurred. For an annual fee of $40, fans receive a very amateur newsletter of outdated news and other miscellany about Olivia. That's it - none of the fee goes to the maintenance of the website which is graciously funded by Helen. Recently, the club tried to improve what if offered fans by creating a Members Only section featuring "exclusive" fan artwork and photographs of Olivia to better justify its exorbitant fee. The club also holds monthly contests for more homemade Olivia junk. Otherwise, anyone can access the trove of memorabilia on the site and can request a password to post to the Message Board without paying membership. Most fans wisely choose to save their $40 since most and the best parts of the site are absolutely free. Many fans question what exactly their annual dues are being spent on. Can the printing and postage of six annual newsletters really cost that much? Worse, the newsletters are often late in being published and distributed further diminishing their timeliness.

Many fans are also frustrated by how the club is managed particularly the Message Board. Oh, sure ... the Message Board, like any fan site, is filled with fanatics who obsess far too much about every minutia of Olivia's personal life and career. But, the Board's tyrannical leader, Melissa, disapproves when others usurp her "power." For example, check out the recent post by Xanadude about Olivia's television appearances to promote her new Christmas CD. While other members thanked Xanadude for the update, Melissa quickly went into defense mode insisting fans should instead refer to the News section - even if it is not as up to date as the Message Board - for anything new about Olivia. Basically, if Melissa cannot be involved or take credit, it should not be shared on the Board. When "Xanadu" opened on Broadway, Melissa did not want anyone to post about the show since, according to her, it was not related to Olivia. (Would an Olivia fan even know about "Xanadu" on Broadway if it was not for the film "Xanadu" that starred Olivia?) Why? Probably because Melissa could not travel to New York to see the show or - horrors! - fears the show mocks Olivia. (Olivia herself thoroughly enjoyed the show and the show's cast all have expressed adoration of Olivia then and now.)

Olivia herself could eliminate so much of this nonsense by simply starting a long overdue OFFICIAL fan club. For X dollars per year, send out a newsletter with some exclusive goodies (pictures, web links, etc.) . Fans get a decent product which she and her management can have full control over and all fans are treated equitably. Leave Only Olivia and comparable sites to just be collections of memorabilia where fans can go and discuss whether her new song is any good, how her hair looks and other such silliness without all of the politics, speculation and other BS that OO members and other fans encounter now. Being an Olivia fan can once again be a pleasant diversion enjoyed equally by all of her fans.

I will add that Melissa also talks behind members backs about other people. Kevin and Melissa will ask a fan for something they do not have at the moment on olivia and will promise to pay you but in the end they will not. Just like Kim will want something about Olivia from another fan and will not offer to pay either. I found that out myself!

A good fan club would print out a budget for members to see and how much a newsletter is and how much management spends on paper, printing, photos and where do they get these photos if Bill does not take them?
Postage and memorabilia that Dale says comes out of his own pocket, if it does, tell everyone how much it costs, don't hide the truth.
How much did the convention costs management and break down the cost for each paying member and why they have to pay to receive this or that?

Here's another example of Melissa's leadership ability and people skills - check out the post about Olivia being on the radio Thursday morning:

1. Does she thank the person who posted this? No, because that would admit she did not get the information first.

2. Why didn't OO "break" this news? If you would just limit yourself to the OO News section for updates as she constantly directs you to, you would have missed the interview. (She must therefore read the Board for news as well!)

3. Notice how she takes credit for Olivia mentioning where the CD can be found in Target? Like Olivia does not have a management team or someone from Target pulling her strings already for this.

I like Helen, but one of the biggest mistakes she ever made was putting Melissa in charge of that fan club. Worst mistake ever. She ruined the fan club.

There should be a rotating committee where people like Linda Sands, Xanadude, Farmer, Helen, PinkLady should replace Kevin, Melissa and Bill.
They seem to post mostly and they could form the new committee and take turns managing the board for at least two years.
Melissa, Kevin and Bill need to step down. The committee could vote whether or not to keep Dale as the resident artist or get someone else to take turns submitting art to the newsletter.
There needs to be a committee elected by a board who will not play favorites or only kiss up to their friends.
The board needs at least five members. So when there is a tie election the fifth member is the tie breaker.
This needs to be done to save that fan club.

Actually no one got to see Olivia afterward, except for Kate. Olivia seemed to pick her out from the crowd. It wasn't one or the other. People were basically just standing around waiting outside the studio

Kate I was there....................After you were told there were no seats left,you made your way outside and spent the next hour with Dorian from OO waiting for Olivia to come out. Also when you first got there to get in line you went over and said hello to Scott (crazycat) from OO.........I was there and saw everthing. It in no way happened like you say it did...................I was there with my Mom and Dad the entire time too................Olivia signed my Xmas Wish cd in blue sharpie..........I was so happy it was in blue so it will be different from the ones She signed to sell on the web.............She was rushed, and confined and spen less that 6 mins out with us before being told She had to leave right then and left with Her people to the black car waiting out front..............So I was there,met some great fans,and got my cd signed,and now a good laugh

Back With A Heart was released in 1998 - nearly ten years ago! - before she finally got her own OFFICIAL website - olivianewton-john.com. She has never referred to OO again in any subsequent CD.

Of course, Olivia waves to her fans she recognizes in the crowd. The same people travel the world to see the same show with the same songs and the same stories over and over and over again. (Must explain why that one fan keeps repeating him/herself!)

Based on the poor sales of her new Christmas CD - just 16,000 copies sold more than two months after its release - she does not seem to have many fans left. Her few remaining fans are buying multiple copies of the CD as stocking stuffers for their friends and families who wish these 40+ year-olds would just get a life already!

At this point, Olivia will probably wave at just about anyone who shows up for her concerts and other appearances. No wonder why her management company drafted a note for her to include in the OO newsletter. Gotta sell that CD to somebody - she obviously could not interest many Hallmark or Walgreens shoppers to buy her music.

This OO newsletter, magazine or whatever it is called was taken to a copy center and I asked the person what kind of paper was used and how much would it cost to produce this bi-monthly thing. And he told me about $3.00-$5.oo a piece.
He said if the OO staff has access to a heavy duty computer printer that prints real photos well, you could do it yourself for around $2.75-$3.50 a piece.
How about saving around $800+ for other things instead of the money going into the OO staff's pockets or buying them good seats for Olivia concerts plus airfare to these concerts?
