TUE02MAY

Yes, there truly is a tiny child carrying a sign which reads TOE TAGS FOR FAGS.

I feel dirty as hell being on the side of chest-beating Fox journalists, but MY GOD SOME PEOPLE WHO LOVE JESUS ARE FUCKING PSYCHOTICALLY EVIL.

This video may take a while to load (it's five minutes), but it's really worth flicking through your Bible while you wait.

557 days til the next election.

p.s. Pauly Shore i/v on Triple R tonight if you want to hear some clumsily flirtatious American banter, buuuuuu-ddies.

dude, i'm spending my day researching an article on conservative christian religious objections to sex education in schools.

apparently "sex education promotes homosexual activity because it teaches children that promiscuity is natural, even necessary".

therefore they are all going to run out and buy abba cds and start fucking each other willy fucking nilly.

ITS DOING MY FUCKING HEAD IN!

even with the grainy picture i could see that woman's eyes burn with the light of the dangerously-devoted-and-obviously-fucking-insane. and that manic, stretched smile that never faltered?

terrifying and hilarious and poisonous all at the same time.

I'm surprised to say it, but those Fox dudes do a fair job of smacking her down and making it fairly clear she's a raging fucking lunatic. I particularly like his wry "Hallelujah" to finish things off.

Religious fanaticism is a pathological condition. It negates any right to free speech in my opinion, as belief is not subject to evidentiary assessment. A legal right should not apply to an untestable position, especially where that position seeks to infringe on the rights of others.

Woah, Last Scientician dude... that's a pretty radical statement. While I'm sure Herr Popper would be quite chuffed, I'm not sure freedom of speech and falsifiability have anything to do with each other (libel/slander notwithstanding). Are you suggesting astrologers have no legal right to free speech when penning their daily wisdom?

Hmmm, maybe that's why my star signs have been so disappointingly unseditious of late.

This was all very odd coming from Fox.

Hahaha. Yubris, you should read my last blog post. Interesting that you brought up astrology.

Anyway, yeah, it's a radical statement. But I hardly think the founding fathers of the US constitution had in mind upsetting grieving families at funerals when they drafted the document. My point being, that laws don't necessarily have to apply equally to everyone. Certainly criminals lose their rights, so too should mentally incapable people, perhaps, as these people almost certainly are.

As for astrologers, in a small aside, they usually, if not always, have a disclaimer stating to the effect that their musings are for "entertainment purposes only". In other words, they admit on paper they are talking shit.

Why did she keep referring to it/him/her as "the lord your god"? what about the lord her god? where did her god figure in her ramblings?

And 80% of the church are her relations. Dare I ask if they're all inbreds?

the last scientician, i think you're absolutely right about religious fundamentalism being a kind of pathology that requires treatment. all kinds of psychological disorders are really just a kind of fundamentalism e.g. obsessive compulsive or narcissistic personality disorder. looking back on my catholic schooling, i can't help but feel we were subjected to a kind of child abuse - the indoctrination is so relentless and so total, that it took a long time to let go of the absurd conviction that there is a god.

damn you, sister mary lyn! damn you to..um...a very bad place.

mskp: You should read some Richard Dawkins on the subject of religion as a virus of the mind. It's an interesting analogy.

I agree that indoctrination of children is child abuse, if it was any dogma other than religion, it would be illegal. Remember it was the Jesuits who said "Give me a child before he is seven, and I will show you the man".

Kinda creepy.

yeah, the jesuits said that, scientician, and i'm not sure of the context (ie was it a sociological comment on child-rearing and development or was it a sinister comment on religious indoctrination, and before you say it, i'll say it: perhaps they are the same? no doubt), but i take that quote, about the child until seven etc, meaning that most of the influences during early childhood, stick. all the goodness and badness that goes on during that time, forms the child. the kisses, the smacks, the criticism, the praise. i always took it to mean that after that time, there child is pretty much who and how they are going to be when they are an adult.

perhaps naive of me...

People should be able to say whatever they want, even if they're stark raving mad.

Censoring fundamentalists means acknowledging them. I prefer to laugh at them.

Pseudo-violence works, too. Punch them when they show up at funerals? No. A better approach involves a paper bag, a high-fibre diet and an accurate bowling arm.

03May17:18

Censor them? No, I would take them to task. Send them to Iraq to preach their message. See how long they last.
